So You Want to Volunteer?

Becoming an active member of the James Canyon Fire Department is a simple process.  You need only be a resident of the James Canyon District.  No prior training is required.

Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Call our fire department at 575-687-3960 or attend one of our monthly business meetings held the third Tuesday of each month starting at 6:00 p.m. at the main station.  Take a tour and find out more about us.
  2. Fill our an Application form. (click the link to download application)
  3. Dedicate yourself to an exciting and rewarding opportunity to serve your community.

For those 15-17 years of age, the department’s active junior firefighter program offers exciting, in-depth participation with the department’s operations.

Radio Club

The Sacramento Mountains Radio Club is open to all who have their HAM radio license, or are in the process of getting one.  Anyone interested in obtaining a license can get instruction in a class and taking a test.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month at the JCVFD at 2:00 p.m.

Our purpose is to promote HAM radio in the community for several purposes:

  1. Have fun…. communication with other HAM operators, locally and world wide.
  2. To support our community in any disaster, such as a fire, flood or road closures, search and rescue.
  3. There are members of the VFD who are also HAM operators.  If a fire channel from the county is inoperable, then communication between the Fire Department which has been deployed can be relayed through a HAM operator to the County.
