The JCVFD monthly potluck and general meeting are held the third Wednesday of each month. (Unless that falls on a holiday) The potluck begins at 5:45pm. Auxiliary meetings begin at 6:00pm as we finish dinner. The Fire Department meeting starts at 7:00pm. Meetings alternate between the Upper Cox Canyon Station (31 Valley Road off of Highway 130) and the James Canyon main station (2346 Highway 82).
Fire training is held the following Friday evening after the meeting at 6:00pm. The training continues on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00am and ending around 1:00pm. These schedule dates will be adhered to if at all possible. January training was slipped to March and April training slipped a week. The training topic may change, but we will keep the dates and notify you of any topic change as early as possible. In addition, Rope Rescue Team training will be held on the first Friday every month and the following Saturday. Additional training may be scheduled as required/requested.
Classes in “Introduction to Firefighting” and “Initial CEVO Training” will be taught in the department as soon as there are members who need the training. Try to recruit new members year-round.
Additional training is available at the NMFTA in Socorro year round, the SBWFA in Ruidoso (next in February 2018, and the SMWA in Cloudcroft 24 Feb – 5 Mar 2017. Schedules and registration are available on-line. When your request for permission to register for these classes is approved by the department you will be given a PR # to use. You must have department permission to attend any out-of-department courses.
